You might remember back in 2017, actor Wendell Pierce, came to Richmond to build housing- especially low-income housing (which is greatly needed)
https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Actor-Wendell-Pierce-plans-to-build-massive-11958308.php Since 2017, his building firm has spent almost $2mill in trying to get permits and approval from the City of Richmond. It was brought to our attention that there are some conflict-of-interests going on that was stopping this project from moving forward.
As you will see from the attached, Andrew Butt, who was in the Planning Commission at the time, his dad who’s the Mayor, and his wife who is in the Design Review Board, all have helped prevent this project. Several times they told the developer that if they were to use their friends then the project could be approved. The developer talked to City staff, which acknowledged the wrongdoing.
Five years later the project is still on hold, with lots of conflicts of interest in the way.
There are many more of these communications; not just from this one developer. This is a huge conflict of interest. As a volunteer, who also owns an architecture firm and whose dad is the Mayor, Andrew needs to be above reproach. Sending people to his friends or own business is a conflict of interest!
